Extension or Conversion?
A conversion takes a currently un-used or uninhabitable space (e.g. an attic or basement) and turns it into a room. An extension takes an existing space and makes it larger, by extending it outwards or adding another floor.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to home extensions. It depends on the layout and style of your house, and the space around it.
Types of extension
There are different types of extensions to suit various needs and budgets. Single floor extensions add extra space at the back or side of your house (typically to a kitchen or dining room). Double-storey extensions provide even more space over two floors. Sometimes an extension is some kind of mixture of the two; for example, adding a room over a garage.
